Arc Flash Risks in Multi-Feed Electric Systems

Combining multiple sources of electricity such as grid power, solar panels, batteries, capacitors, windmills and generators— can help to ensure that your facility never loses power but can also pose increased safety challenges. In an environment with multiple power sources it will be more difficult to determine wether you are working live, in proximity of electrified equipment or on dead wiring. The process of LOTO, Lock Out, Tag Out to secure that wiring really is dead becomes more challenging.

One significant risk is arc flash. Not only does the risk of an accident increase, but multiple power sources may also can amplify fault currents, leading to higher incident energy and a higher need for protection.

As risks are increasing the need for compliant PPE also increases. Fortunately, Eureka’s Arc Flash assortment covers a wide range of arc risks. Our thin and flexible options are

Glove Type Cut Protection ATPV cal rating AF Category
