Arc Flash Risks in Multi-Feed Electric Systems

Combining multiple sources of electricity such as grid power, solar panels, batteries, capacitors, windmills and generators— can help to ensure that your facility never loses power but can also pose increased safety challenges. In an environment with multiple power sources it will be more difficult to determine wether you are working live, in proximity of electrified equipment or on dead wiring. The process of LOTO, Lock Out, Tag Out to secure that wiring really is dead becomes more challenging.

One significant risk is arc flash. Not only does the risk of an accident increase, but multiple power sources may also can amplify fault currents, leading to higher incident energy and a higher need for protection.

As risks are increasing the need for compliant PPE also increases. Fortunately, Eureka’s Arc Flash assortment covers a wide range of arc risks. Our thin and flexible options are

Glove Type Cut Protection ATPV cal rating AF Category

The Jack of All trades glove series Eureka Safety 13-4 General

13-4 General Series. Jack of all trades

The Eureka Safety 13-4 General Series is one of the most appreciated product series due to its many suitable working areas.

  • High cut resistance, up to cut F/ANSI A6.
  • Different coating options for different grip and working environments,
        • Breathable SupraCoat
        • Durable Nitrile
        • Crinkle Latex coating for fingerprint free touch
  • Moisture absorbing materials provide a nice cotton feel, perfect for warm summer days

  • Moisture absorbing materials even offer slight insulation for cooler environments and contact heat
  • while not ESD or ATEX certified, the general series perform much better than traditional cut gloves made of HPPE. ATEX and ESD gloves are used when there is a risk of ignition or a risk of damaging electronics due electrostatic discharge
  • Material is not flame retardant however is superior to standard HPPE cut gloves which have a melting point of 140°C and burn much more aggressively.
